Best Anime to Watch When You’re Sick

This cold needs to stop.  It’s messing with my plans, and I’d really like to be back to full health before spring semester starts.  But, while I’m stuck in bed (which I’m so over!), the silver lining is it’s anime time!

Although, it’s hard to choose the right anime to watch when you’re sick.  The brain fog is real.  I keep zoning out, and I don’t have the energy for anything new.  So, after many sick days and much trial and error, I’ve put together a foolproof strategy for picking the perfect anime when you’re curled up under the blankets.

1. Pick Something You Can Watch in Dub

If your brain is already struggling, don’t make it work harder by trying to keep up with subs.  The best plan?  Have a list ready before you get sick.  Over on Anime-Planet, I’ve got a whole collection of favorite English dubs that I fall back on when I need something easy to watch.  Top picks include:

  • Ouran High School Host Club – Nothing but good vibes and comedy gold.

  • Trigun – Classic, action-packed, but still cozy.

  • InuYasha – Peak nostalgia and perfect background noise for even sleep time.

2. Stick to Comfort Shows

Your sick-day anime should be something you’ve already seen. That way, if you doze off mid-episode, you won’t be lost when you wake up.  (Or worse, wake up mid-spoiler.) My go-to’s include:

  • InuYasha (again) - I mean, how many times could I miss out on InuYasha and Kagome screaming each other’s names?

  • Card Captor Sakura – Pure nostalgia and soft vibes.

  • Ouran High School Host Club – A rewatch that never gets old.

  • Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – I’m not fooling anyone.  If I start this, I’m just gonna be backtracking for my favorite Ling Yao episodes when I miss them.  Scratch this one off the list…

3. Soft, Muted Vibes Only

Sometimes sick = light sensitivity and that means no flashy animation.  If my head is pounding, I need something with calm, soothing visuals.  These two immediately come to mind:

  • Mushi-Shi – Beautiful, quiet, and feels like a fever dream.

  • Hell Girl – It’s a real vibe when you just wanna sulk with your soup.

What to Avoid When You’re Sick

Too Much Fanservice – The last thing you need is to wake up just as someone walks in on that one scene.

Starting Something NewWhat if you miss an important moment?  Or wake up during a major spoiler?  Or even worse: what if it’s airing weekly and you’re stuck waiting?  No thanks.

Familiar favorites all the way! Hope you’re feeling better soon.
