Why Not Both?

There comes a point in everyone’s day where they realize they have too little time to do finish any projects and, that, at a certain point in the day, starting a new project sounds awful.

Today, I ran into that.

And I was frustrated. Then I remembered something that helped me get through my usual 20-hour workdays (which I don’t recommend) and I asked myself that age-old, time-tested question:

What can I do in the next 30 minutes to make tomorrow easier?

This is one of the best questions to ask yourself to put in that little bit extra, even when you’re tired.

Why?

Because it’s easy to think about doing something for just thirty minutes. Heck, do it with 10 minute intervals when you feel really exhausted.

You’ll be surprised how quickly you can turn on the back burners and power through something that felt insurmountable or that felt too tedious and miniscule to deal with when you have so many larger things on your plate.

But — it’s those tiny steps that truly matter!

Take one small step after another and, after a while, you’ll have walked a block. Then, if you keep doing that, maybe by the end of next week, you’ll have walked a mile.

Today, I was exhausted from studying so I knew that I couldn’t handle anymore reading.

I’d also already spent an hour cleaning out my work in progress folder, which was a mess, so I certainly didn’t want to do anymore of that!

And, tonight, I’ll be working on commissions on stream, so I got all of that ready to go… but wasn’t quite ready to dive in because 30 minutes just wasn’t enough time.

So, I asked myself what I could do that would “count” toward one of the big projects. And, for the past forever, my products have not been listed on my website. It’s frustrating, too! But there’s this bottleneck created by having to do the photography and having to then format all the images, make the web pages, and then do all the SEO and everything else that goes into making a page. I also knew that I wanted to do a blog post (especially since I had missed one last week).

And then I thought… why not both?

I could just try to format as many images as possible while rocking out to The Messenger soundtrack (which totally slaps!) and then discuss it on my blog post.

Because… why not!

After all, so many of us have these problems and we face them daily.

So, today I challenge you! When you’ve reached the end of your day and you have that small amount of time left, ask yourself, “what can I do in the next x minutes to make tomorrow easier?”

Then, put on some music that slaps and get to it!

Just for fun, see how much you can get done with and think of it as a bonus! There’s no set number, there’s no benchmark. Just go for it! Speedrun that work and maintain your quality! You’ll be surprised what you can accomplish and how quickly it can add up.

And, on that note… 11 minutes for blog post isn’t half bad. I can’t wait to see how many images I can format! Let’s go!
