And Nothing Was Lost…
Peace of mind is a beautiful, beautiful thing.
There’s nothing quite like watching your hard drive go up in metaphorical flames while smiling because you know that you didn’t lose anything of importance.
Every time this happens, I can always sigh with relief that I know for a fact that I didn’t lose the hundreds of commissions I’ve done over the past 10 years. I didn’t lose any of my works in progress. I didn’t lose anything other than 3 spreadsheets. And no, Dropbox isn’t paying me to praise them. I just love a good Cloud service and that, when there’s a crisis like a hard drive crash, I can go to sleep knowing that I didn’t lose everyone’s character designs, logos, and sketches.
It’s why I back up every single commission, every single sketch to Dropbox whenever I save it in my programs. My Dropbox doesn’t back up nightly or weekly. It backs up as files are saved.
And then I just store all commissions there - forever.
It’s nice.
So nice.
And it’s why, after 10 years since I started using Dropbox to back up my external hard drive, I can send you links to your commissions even after my pc has died 4 times.
Although, what I’ve learned from this most recent experience is that I chew through an internal SSD hard drive at a rate of one per 2 years. Fortunately, they aren’t very expensive, so I can save a few dollars a month and easily replace them when the time comes.
The biggest loss is always the time spent physically repairing the PC and reinstalling programs. During that time, I’m also unable to work on commissions. So, I think I’ll figure out how to solve that next.
Until then, rest assured that all the works I’ve done for you, whether they’re subscriber sketches on Twitch or entire comic books, are safe and sound.
